Poster Design
This poster design was a passion project of mine as I felt compelled to create a design reflecting the human trafficking issues in San Diego, California.
What started as social frustration, became a project, then became a blog. Through San Diego State's student led fashion magazine, The Look, I was able to pitch this idea in which I worked with a student writer who crafted the written portion of the blog that has informative information regarding human trafficking and resources to get involved. The idea behind my design expressing the business part of trafficking which is reflected by a barcode. The human face crying represents the victims who are trafficked. The face is in the bar code to express how people are being sold like an item at the store with a barcode. I decided to use a woman's face as many women are victims in trafficking. However, it is important to mention the awareness of male and female genders falling victim to human trafficking. The barcode then features more wavy lines to express the focus of the coastal region of San Diego. The color palette of blues also reflect that as well.
I also created a resource section for the blog in a receipt format to connect with the buying/selling idea of trafficking. This featured on the blog and I also create a social media post version in that style as well.
Following the post of the blog on the website and the announcement on social media, I decided to print out 11 x 17 inch posters around the San Diego State Campus to spread awareness on the campus by pinning them on bulletin boards.
In continuation to this project I went on to create a version that focuses on child trafficking that takes on the form of the original design but since it is about children I decided to change the color palette to something more childlike and changed the person in the barcode to a teddy bear to symbolize children since it is a common toy for children through the decades. It also adds as one of the United Nations issues regarding "5 Gender Equality."
