This poster design is based on a speech Overcoming Hopelessness by Nick Vujicic. The goal of the design was to first create a dynamic type-based poster design of the speech that connects to the overall message. As well as, a version with an image.
Overcoming Hopelessness
Poster Design

Nick Vujicic is a motivational speaker who is born without arms and legs and shares his story as an example of overcoming challenges and reaching success. In the speech, he discusses hopelessness. I decided to use the word "Surviving" as the message talks about having hope in your life and that is through surviving the hard times and overcoming them. Surviving means remaining alive, especially after the death of another or others. I used the beginning lines of the speech in an interactive way for the viewer to literally find the "hope" within the design.
These were the different iterations before the final one in which I explored different layouts.

For the color palette, I went with the green and yellow palette as they represent success and life that were ideas a part of the speech. The fonts chosen were Rockwell and Futura in which I believed made for a fresh and friendly design.
When discussing the version with a photo, the photo I chose was of a torso of a male statue. This connects to the speaker himself as he lacks limbs and uses his torso to move. He mentions how his anatomy caused difficulties in life; therefore I thought to highlight that visually and find it striking when looking at it from afar. In addition, I added a dotted texture. In both final posters, I separated the text into three columns and used pull-out quotes from parts of the speech I deemed important to emphasize such as, "Hope you can't just have just because you were born with hope." and "I was set free in so many different ways and especially surviving from day to day." These quotes I decided to space it out from the columns for more visual interest.
